A 6-Year-Old Boy's Battle with Tinea Capitis

In the heart of Indorama, a bustling medical center, the extraordinary story of a resilient 6-year-old boy unfolded. On November day in 2022, when he first sought medical attention for incessant itchiness plaguing his scalp.

The Initial Visit: On the 8th of November 2022, the young boy arrived at the Indorama center, accompanied by his worried parents. Itchy lesions covered his scalp, causing distress and concern. Diligent paramedics promptly conducted an initial assessment, which revealed normal vital signs, providing a glimmer of relief. With no significant medical history to guide them, the medical team decided to engage in a teleconsultation with a seasoned General physician.

The doctor virtually assessed the boy’s condition and expertly diagnosed him with scalp dermatitis. Armed with this understanding, the physician recommended an array of measures to alleviate the discomfort. Plenty of fluids, diligent hygiene practices, and the avoidance of scratching were prescribed to manage the condition. Additionally, a referral to a renowned dermatologist was made, ensuring the young boy would receive the utmost care.

On that same day, a teleconsultation was orchestrated, With astute clinical judgment, the dermatologist determined that the boy’s condition was not just scalp dermatitis, but a specific condition known as Tinea Capitis. The doctor suggested a 15-day treatment regimen with Tab. Griseofulvin 125 mg, to be taken twice daily, along with the application of clotrimazole 10mg/g cream, twice daily. The dermatologist emphasized the significance of maintaining proper hygiene, encouraging the boy to bathe twice daily and use a separate towel to prevent reinfection. Recognizing the importance of regular monitoring, the doctor advised frequent follow-up visits to the Indorama center.

On the 9th of February 2023, the boy returned to the Indorama center for his follow-up visit, accompanied by his mother. As the medical team examined him, a sense of relief filled the air. The symptoms had significantly improved, reflecting the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment. The young boy was connected with the dermatologist once again to assess his progress and receive further guidance.

Impressed by the boy’s progress, the dermatologist advised the treatment plan, incorporating Levocetirizine syrup, to be taken once a day for 15 days. Additionally, the boy was advised to continue applying clotrimazole cream twice a day and use a scalp shampoo on alternate days during hair washes.
