A Model for Sustainable, Partnership-based Telehealth Services in Rural India: An Early Process Evaluation from Tuver Village, Gujarat

A Model for Sustainable, Partnership-based Telehealth Services in Rural India

The early process evaluation of the telehealth services implemented in Tuver village, Gujarat, demonstrated a sustainable and partnership-based model for delivering healthcare to rural communities in India. By adopting a Business of Humanity approach and considering the diverse needs of rural populations, this model holds promise for addressing the healthcare challenges faced by underserved areas.

With a vision to provide sustainable, comprehensive, and quality healthcare services, the University of Pittsburgh (UoP), Business of Humanity (BoH) in association with Apollo Telemedicine Networking Foundation (ATNF), Safe World Rural Services (SRS), and Narottam Lal Bhai Rural Development Fund (NLRDF) has initiated Tuver Health & Wellness Centre (THWC) project. The DC HEaRT initiative’s THWC project, which is one of its components, aims to promote health and well-being among the rural residents in and around Tuver Village, Gujarat. The THWC concept is distinctive because it combines digital and medical services. It not only looks at improving access but also aims at achieving self-sustainability, especially with the inclusion of DC power.

The Tuver Health & Wellness Centre program is continuing to benefit the tribal and rural communities through its comprehensive services. Furthermore, initiatives like door-to-door visits and the distribution of free menstrual hygiene kits have been contributing to the better impact of the THWC program. The program is being recognized by communities which is being reflected in the program coverage and utilization of services from individuals across various villages around Tuver.
